Do you use gelatin in your marshmallows?
-
Absolutely not! We pride ourselves on being the original manufacturer of gelatin-free, 100% vegetarian and vegan marshmallows. We make our own non-animal based gel using a proprietary formula—rest assured our marshmallows are completely animal-free and utterly heavenly!
-
Why vegan marshmallows? What’s wrong with gelatin?
-
Traditional marshmallows contain gelatin, and most people don’t know what gelatin is. Gelatin is derived from the bones, skin, and organs of animals. Many people choose not to eat gelatin for ethical, religious, and health reasons (gelatin can transmit BSE, Mad Cow Disease!). Up until a few years ago, there were no gelatin-free marshmallows, and many of us went through smore and rice crispy treat withdrawal. It was just horrible. Then Sweet & Sara came along. Now everyone can enjoy scrumptious, gelatin-free, vegetarian and vegan marshmallows!
-
Do your marshmallows taste like “real” marshmallows?
-
Vegetarians AND non-vegetarians alike tell us THEY TASTE BETTER! The flavor, texture, and whole Sweet & Sara experience far surpasses conventional marshmallows. And yes, they do melt! You’ve got to try it to believe it!
-
What are some ways to enjoy Sweet & Sara marshmallows?
You can enjoy our marshmallows just as you would any other marshmallow. Dunk them into hot cocoa. Roast them over a campfire to make smores. Melt them into rice crispy treats or on top of your favorite ice cream. Mix them into brownies for a rocky road effect. Dip them in chocolate fondue. Add them to holiday yams. Sweeten coffee or tea, or our favorite, simply enjoy them as they are! The possibilities are endless. Have fun!!!

Rice Crispy Treats:
- 1 box of Sweet & Sara marshmallows
- 3 Tablespoons of margarine
- 5 cups of crispy rice cereal
Melt the margarine in a pot over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat. Add the crispy rice cereal and mix until well coated. Spray an 8" square pan with oil and press mixture down evenly with fingers and chill in refrigerator for about 15 minutes or until firm. Cut into squares and enjoy! Warning: these are addictive!
-
What is the shelf life of Sweet & Sara’s marshmallows and smores?
-
Our marshmallows and smores should be stored in the refrigerator for maximum freshness. This preserves their taste and texture. In the refrigerator, our marshmallows and smores remain fresh for 4 months. Since Sweet & Sara treats are best enjoyed at room temperature, let them “thaw” outside the refrigerator for a bit before eating. They can also be frozen for 3-4 months.
-
Your products are refrigerated - what happens if they are left outside?
-
As long as they are in a cool area, they can be left out an ENTIRE MONTH :). Our marshmallows and smores should be stored in the refrigerator for maximum freshness. This preserves their taste and texture.

Are your marshmallows and smores gluten-free? Peanut/Tree-nut free?

Some of the marshmallows are slightly bigger and some slightly smaller than others - why aren’t they all exactly shaped?
-
Our delicious marshmallows are made in small batches, cut by hand and not in a huge factory with industrial machines.
-
Do you plan to make organic marshmallows?

We hope to produce organic vegan marshmallows in the near future, but right now the high cost of organic ingredients would mean we’d have to charge our customers more than we’re willing to for our marshmallows.
